The complaint

Fabric Selection, Inc. v. Zoetop Business Co., Ltd., individually and d/b/a SHEIN; Shein Distribution Corporation; Roadget Business Pte., Ltd.; SHEIN US Services, LLC; SHEIN Technology, LLC; and Does 1 through 10, No. 2:26-cv-12942 (C.D. Cal.), was filed November 4, 2026, ECF No. 1 (17 pages), with a jury demand. Fabric Selection, Inc. is described as a California corporation based in Commerce, California, that creates two-dimensional artwork for textile printing and sells fabric bearing that artwork. The complaint alleges, on information and belief, that Zoetop is a Hong Kong private limited company doing business as SHEIN with a place of business in Los Angeles, California; that Shein Distribution Corporation and SHEIN US Services, LLC are Delaware companies with principal places of business in Los Angeles; that Roadget Business Pte., Ltd. is a Singapore company that owns, operates, and/or controls the SHEIN brand and platform; and that SHEIN Technology, LLC is a Delaware company involved in the SHEIN e-commerce platform. It alleges, on information and belief, that the Doe defendants are unidentified parties who infringed or contributed to infringement, including the manufacturers, printing mills, converters, and vendors that supplied the accused garments to SHEIN.

The work

The complaint says Fabric Selection's in-house design team created, as a work made for hire, original two-dimensional artwork allocated internal design number SR70305 (the Subject Design), featuring multi-layered roses and peonies, small white blossoms, green leaf sprays, and dense bouquets on a mauve ground in a tossed diagonal layout. It says Fabric Selection registered the design with the Copyright Office as part of the collection titled Byanca Collection 2017, Registration No. VAu 1-278-183, effective March 27, 2017, with SR70305 listed among the content titles. The Copyright Office public record for Registration No. VAu 1-278-183 shows an unpublished visual-material collection titled "BYANCA COLLECTION 2017," registered March 27, 2017, with Fabric Selection Inc as author (employer for hire) and claimant, and lists SR70305 among the content titles.

What the complaint alleges

The complaint alleges that Fabric Selection sampled and sold fabric bearing the Subject Design to fashion and apparel buyers and never licensed any Defendant to use it. It alleges, on information and belief, that Defendants made, imported, displayed, and sold garments bearing unauthorized reproductions of the design, including a mauve floral midi dress with flared three-quarter sleeves and a high-low ruffled hem, and it says those garments bear SHEIN and Made in China labels, making them SHEIN private-label products. It alleges, on information and belief, that SHEIN selected the design, ordered manufacture, imported the garments, photographed them, and sold them through us.shein.com and the SHEIN mobile application. It says Fabric Selection sent a cease-and-desist letter in May 2024 and that SHEIN did not respond.

Claims and relief

The first claim is for copyright infringement against all Defendants. The second claim is for contributory copyright infringement against all Defendants.
